Common Causes of Gum Disease
The longer plaque and tartar sit and build up on your teeth, the worse they can get. Brushing and flossing help, but when plaque hardens and tartar forms, you need to see a dentist. If it’s been a while since you’ve seen a dentist for a thorough cleaning and your gums appear red or swollen, you could potentially be at risk for having gingivitis. This mild form of gum disease can be treated by a dental hygienist as well as daily brushing and flossing. If it advances, however, it can turn to periodontitis, which causes inflammation around the tooth or teeth. Your teeth may eventually become loose and have to be removed.
Common signs of gum disease include the following:
• Swollen or red gums • Pain while chewing • Sensitive teeth • Receding gums • Tender gums • Bleeding gums • Loose teeth
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, or have been for a while, call Dr. Vallone’s office at 956-887-1608. We’ll schedule an appointment for periodontics gum treatment at your earliest convenience to ensure you’re seen by Laredo’s most trusted periodontist sooner rather than later.
